Thanks for talking about this, Georgia. It’s a stark reality we’re living in and it’s not going to get much better except if we talk about it and shed light on these fast fashion terrors. We need to talk about it, we need to yell about it because this over-consumption and mindless collecting of stuff is drowning us.

It really is. And it keeps getting drowned out by ‘omg they’re using AI we’re living in the future’ which is like…what? Since when did AI erase everything else?

There are some truly beneficial sides of AI when it’s used responsibly. But then there’s this dark side of it and this is not a future I want to be faced with…but we’re there already, I suppose.

There’s this POV, this theory that no one acknowledges because it’s taken as a given, called tech positivism. I think we’ve all been brainwashed into it. This idea that tech is inherently good.

I don’t think AI can have positive sides in the current society, economy, system, that we’re in. You have a bunch of primarily global north white men programming these things with no sense of history, geography, sociology etc but who are driven by money, capitalism, and creating new things because they can…and somehow it’s meant to be 👍

Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I’m cynical. I hope so. Because as you said, we’re already there.

No you’re absolutely right. I haven’t seen many good uses of the technology thus far. I also don’t know a lot about it, to be honest. I think I’m too freaked out by it. But you’re definitely right about the circumstances in which it exists at the moment and they’re not good.

Honestly I don’t know an awful lot either which is why I do the research and find out. It’s the only way to 1) understand where the world is heading 2) frame things in a way people understand because the importance people put on tech and devaluation of the arts/humanities it’s unhinged

I really agree with the sentiment that AI is a tool. Honestly, the only way forward with these things is regulation and awareness, I’m convinced of it, otherwise it won’t stop. Great post, I wasn’t even aware of Mango’s AI campaign. Very interesting indeed.

Thank you! <3 I think their campaign went really under the radar and I'm not sure why. But regulation is so necessary! The thing is I don't think politicians of most countries even understand how Facebook works let alone AI. Beyond that most governments don't even regulate things like including the pay in a job ad or rent costs etc. I have little faith.
